So, apparently @saleae implemented live viewing in their newest beta software? being able to watch the logic captures come in and decode in real time is /awesome/.

Why doesn't *every* logic analyzer do this? Seriously, this is why I've always used a random FPGA board with some trivial verilog as a logic analyzer instead of anything commercial. I want my realtime infinite capture with live decoding.

Because high-bandwidth real time signal processing is complicated and few people realize how to do it effectively, probably :/

I've been using the simplest setups, from
@sgstair's S3E logic analyzer that just dumped things over Ethernet back in 2007, to@gnihsub's twlfpga with some trivial code to just dump 8 input pins over the FTDI at 30MHz. WIth some trivial C code on the PC to parse the protocols.pic.twitter.com/xjNpHJzEKc

Heck it's been regressing in complexity - @sgstair's analyzer at least did RLE compression, these days I don't even bother because I can dump 30msps 8-bit raw over USB anyway, which is good enough for low-speed protocols.
