Yeah, but IR remotes repeat anyway (most of the time)... it might be enough for experimentation purposes (obviously you wouldn't want to use this as an actual decoder in production).

The carrier doesn't matter, only the lower-rate modulation does. You can plug in a simple photosensor into an audio input (20kHz frequency response) and get decodable data out. I've done that to sniff IR in a pinch several times.

I suspect no because of the gaps between frames... but it looks like it has potential if the shutter angle is 360'!
