You used the words "out of his way" and "deliberate"; that implies intent. Sure, intent does not matter if you look at it from purely the point of view of impact, but it does when you're trying to establish a dialogue about the issue.
If I didn't have real friends who fit this description and have privately told me their displeasure at this kind of thing while publicly staying well away from involving themselves because they have more than enough stuff to deal with already, I wouldn't be bringing this up.

That said, please don't take this as a specific attack on your original reaction. I'm using this opportunity to bring up an issue I think is important and is often forgotten these days. I've seen way worse situations. *This* one just happened to involve people I care about.

I never said we shouldn't bring these things to light. I've mentioned multiple times that I think these are issues we *should* talk about. I'm objecting to the tone and direction of the discussion, which I think is just too often conducive to escalation instead of progress.
