Meta-commentary: I think we all need to keep our loop gain under control when it comes to social issues like these. Runaway negative feedback is how society becomes more polarized and oscillates out of control. Discussion is worth having, but keep it positive!

That's fair enough, but I think there's some influence from the abuse of the term too. There's certainly quite a bit of abuse; I've seen lots of clearly BS claims that "X triggers me", but I think the true sufferers are more likely to suffer quietly.
It's unfortunate, but "triggering" has become a bit of a meme at this point. This does no good to those with real issues. It's unlikely this trend will be easy to reverse, so it might be more efficient to switch terminology instead.

This isn't an attempt to excuse Dave from his usage; I was going off on a tangent here. I think Dave probably doesn't know that this is a real psychological issue and not just a meme, and someone should *teach* him rather than assume he's an evil insensitive troll.

I focused on this issue as an example of how immediately confrontational approaches are, I think, just not helpful. Dave is no angel; I'm not a huge fan of some of his other antics either. I just don't like seeing *discussion* of these issues between people I respect going badly.
