I think the attachment to IV-canal make them particularly loaded of semantics. It's the (not uncommon) problem of one group making something toxic by utter over-use, making it hard to distinguish the group-signalling vs casual usage :(

That's unfortunate. I mean, the "asshole" part isn't wrong. In my prior example, it stands for "yes, I'm an asshole and I deliberately covered up *just* the right modules to make recovering the QR code data as painful as possible while still possible". That was 2 years ago though
