things I don't recommend doing: trying to debug a machine that refuses to boot with only a keyboard. not only that, but the evil people who designed this keyboard didn't place a SysRq key on it!

And this is why it's a tragedy that consumer BIOSes don't do serial console. And why everyone should set up their GRUB to speak serial, and their kernel cmdline to serial console by default. If you have a display/keyboard you can select the alternate VGA console entry!
