I do (I think my Fedora Core 3 book even had a section on it!) but I switched to mplayer pretty much immediately. I just installed it again and am a bit sad that it seems to have no local file playback support.

xine plays local files fine for me (though I had to set the audio output device to alsa, because native pulseaudio doesn't work for some reason).

Used xine to play DVD menu, since MPlayer can only play chapters directly. It was about 15 years ago!
