A PC. No, really, I switched all my routing duties to my always-on-anyway x86 box (also does NAS and other stuff) for this reason. The OpenWRT router is now mostly just a WiFi AP and a switch (switching is in hardware, so it's nonblocking 1G).
I second this setup. I use an x86 PC as a router/firewall/NAS and use a Meraki WiFi AP (dedicated AP, no routing) with a ebay LB4M switch in the middle.
