      I mean, I would have used a \u character escape just in case compilers decide the source code isn't UTF-8.

      But I guess if this is Python 3, the encoding is Unicode by default?

      It is, and even if it weren't, you can stick # -!- coding: utf-8 -!- near the top to make it use UTF-8 in Python 2.
