To clarify, do you mean "Hi, can I ask you a question? I'm wondering... <insert question>" or just "Hi, can I ask you a question? Email me back if yes." because the former is fine but the latter is just a waste of everyone's time.
It's even worse when people do it on IRC. "Hi, can I ask you a question?" *leaves 2 minutes later before you get a chance to answer*. I guess the concept of having to be online to get an answer (no, it's not in the cloud) is alien to people these days!
