introvert tip: One of the reasons I like speaking at conferences is because it makes networking a lot easier. People know who you are and have something to talk to you about. Seems counterintuitive, but one of the best things for introverts is to become speakers!

How do you become one? (I probably don't have the bandwidth to do it atm, just started to figure out blogging etc, but any pointers for the future would be greatly appreciated 🙂How do you go from being a random person on planet earth to becoming a speaker?)

Think about something you know about. It could just be a personal experience learning something that taught you something. You don't need to be a world class expert. Find a place that encourages new speakers (a regular meetup is a good starting place). Speak. Speak again...

Emphasis on not needing to be a world class expert. The Meetup scene is rife with groups that look for enthusiasm and at least a smidge of domain knowledge

I always point new speakers to talking about what they have learned working with a technology. It is a viewpoint unique to them and it is more relatable. Everyone is a world-level expert on their own story.

Definitely want to echo the sentiment that you don't have to be an expert to talk!https://twitter.com/jesstelford/status/963230590500618240 …

Pretend you're writing out the lineup for your ideal conf; all the talks you wish you could see / things to learn about. Write the one-liners for each of the talks. Now go submit those ideas to actual conferences! You'll get accepted somewhere, and get to learn in the process.

You *are* en expert. Everyone is, for something. So talk about that. Built a project on technology X? You may or may not be an expert at X but you're certainly an expert at your project with X, so talk about that!
