Sure, I'm just saying this is the distro's fault. We pretty much have an Obvious Default Setup that should be used for any user not mucking with configs by default, and it includes the ALSA->PA->ALSA compat path. If some distros aren't doing this by default, WHY?!
I mean if your distro doesn't come with a graphical/textmode installer you get a pass (Arch/Gentoo), but anything that tries to cater to nontechnical users damn better get this right.
