Bitcoin consumes 4,000,000,000 W of power to process four transactions per second. A single Raspberry Pi with a database can do an order of magnitude more on 5W. Think about that next time you wonder if it's a good design.

Solar was costlier than coal until recently, does not mean solar was a bad idea. BTC will continue to improve and be more efficient with lightning, and transactions/sec will increase also. The benefits of continuing along this path will outweigh the current inefficiency.

Solar was never a billion times costlier than coal (or, if it was at some point, nobody was even considering it then). Why do people keep making these ridiculous comparisons? I've yet to see a single analogy that comes remotely close to the inefficiency+popularity of Bitcoin.

Now we wait for someone to design an altcoin that works, and for that design to be proven.
