Repeat after me: glitching works. Every time. If you don't have power, reset, and clock monitoring, your chip *will* be pwned. No exceptions.https://twitter.com/bernfroe/status/959405824840957952 …

Huh seems I am done :) In conclusion this is (with #chipwhisperer even more so!) a surprisingly simple secure boot attack on Nvidia Tegra210. Thanks @derrekr6, @hedgeberg, @shuffle2 & others for the info on switchbrew + reswitched sites & #34c3 Switch talk!! pic.twitter.com/NbNCvBWMRY

mm very heavily low-pass filtered I'd imagine. Not hard to do real glitch-attack detection but would be tradeoff with false triggers from regular pwr rail power noise. Seems very doable tho

Glitch detection is not a simple thing, especially on voltage rails. Clock glitch detection means you're sacrificing 10-20% of performance because you have to close timing at a higher frequency. Reset glitch monitoring is fairly trivial (synchronize/buffer the input).

      Replying to @tnare @drtune and

Voltage rail monitoring involves a high speed comparator, and a band gap. You have to put protections on the band gap to prevent an attack that makes it not start. If you have anything close to a high speed chip, your band gap needs tuning.

This either means you're running with a crappy band gap early in boot and you tune it in software, or you're laser trimming at fab. Neither of which is free. And after all of this, you're still vulnerable to a dude with a laser pointer and a way to decap your chip :-)
