Yeeeah I'm pretty sure a buck converter FET shorted itself out, and that delivered 12V to the CPU Vcore, which then shorted out too. EPS12V is only shorted when the CPU is inserted into the socket. Back to Amazon they both go.

yeah thats the master question died it because of a mainboard failure or the cpu itself ? hmm must be answered before you try another cpu...hmmm

I'm pretty sure it was motherboard failure. The question is did it take out the CPU with it or not.

Wonder how tough would it be to rma. My last build had two defective pins in the socket that broke after cpu installation, had fun week of sitting around, waiting for forensic results.
