I think they still design the chips (and perhaps make the reticles), but outsource the manufacturing (unlike Intel, who still manufacture the chips in-house).

I think the opposite is true. I don't know who makes the chips (could be a third party) but I'm pretty sure the IP cores involved are from ASMedia and perhaps the whole chip design is too.

Yeah, my X370 too. USB 3.1 and some rear 3.0 are ASMedia, while the rest are handled by some sort of internal chipset. But to be honest, as long as they're working fine (and they are), I don't see an issue.

IIRC subsystem ID can be programmed by the BIOS during PCI init. So this could be the board vendor, not silicon maker.
