Bitcoin consumes 4,000,000,000 W of power to process four transactions per second. A single Raspberry Pi with a database can do an order of magnitude more on 5W. Think about that next time you wonder if it's a good design.

This has been debunked as a terrible metric as there are single addresses at exchanges that hold millions of user's funds and it is bad security to use the same address for every tx. Not to mention that during this run-up exchanges were adding 100k+ users a day for months.
