Bitcoin consumes 4,000,000,000 W of power to process four transactions per second. A single Raspberry Pi with a database can do an order of magnitude more on 5W. Think about that next time you wonder if it's a good design.

It's not 4 anymore because of segwit. It used to be 7 per second theoretical so I'm guessing that's the 4 your using but without the witness at all maybe 7 was feasible. Segwit apparently is up to 4x tx per block so potential 28? Or a round 20 actual?

This is an order of magnitude estimate. Yes, some constant improvements have been made, but that doesn't come close to fixing the problem. When you have six zeros to get rid of before you can call your design sane, a 4x improvement doesn't cut it.
