I just recompiled an entire (new) Gentoo system in 1 hour. I also just ran a Windows update and that also took 1 hour. Food for thought, Microsoft.

Not bad. My Gentoo+GCC7+Plasma setup usually take about 7 hours with a Ryzen 7. Gentoo setups are faster than they used to be, and people seem to just love making memes instead of trying :-/
My laptop took ~50 hours to rebuild itself, but it's a 14+ year install with a *lot* of software. I'm going to move that config/worldfile to the Threadripper and use it as a buildhost, we'll see how it compares.

I once built Gentoo on a Core2Duo L7500 ThinkPad, X and i3wm. It took 12 hours just to build GCC. Fun times! Well I'm sure Threadripper will serve you well! I bought a Ryzen 7 not only because it helps me develop faster, but because I wanted to update world faster :P
