I just recompiled an entire (new) Gentoo system in 1 hour. I also just ran a Windows update and that also took 1 hour. Food for thought, Microsoft.

I recently recompiled Chromium and it took only... 1 whole night.
5 hours on my laptop. Hoping to cut it down to <1hr on this box, we'll see once I get there.

I briefly considered buying a Ryzen CPU+board+mem, but that would land at ~500€, which I consider too expensive just to satisfy my impatience. My Phenom II x3 705e with 12 Gigs of RAM still serves me well.

My laptop is an Ivy Bridge quad-core (i7-3820QM) with 32GB of RAM. Took ~50hr last time I did a full rebuild. I just dumped ca ~2500€ into building a Threadripper compilebox with 64GB of ECC RAM... I want it to be an automated buildhost for *everything*.
