oh so essentially you don't want to be associated with pirates? that... makes a sensible reason for a copy protection mechanism, in a perverse way

There were piracy guides that were selling downloads of HBC. So we added a "this is free, not for scale" warning to the installer. So they started *pirating* HBC as if it were WiiWare, using piracy channel installer tools instead of the original installer. Hence, this.

Basically the goal is that every user sees the "this is not for sale" screen at least once. Also, tangentially, that HBC isn't used with piracy tools *at runtime* (as in executing together with piracy patches) because they suck and cause spurious crashes and bug reports.
