Bitcoin consumes 4,000,000,000 W of power to process four transactions per second. A single Raspberry Pi with a database can do an order of magnitude more on 5W. Think about that next time you wonder if it's a good design.

I'm also a former Googler and this is exactly the experience I'm coming from. Seriously, Bitcoin is batshit insane to anyone who has ever worked on large scale systems. Google cares about inefficiencies of 5% and here's Bitcoin chugging along wasting 100,000,000,000%.
