I just spent 6 hours figuring out how to update buggy, data-eating SAS disk firmware on an HP ProLiant server. This is ridiculous. Get your shit together, @HPE.
Which isn't supported on older servers. And what if I'm not even using HP hardware? What if I have their drive on a non-HP controller? Why can't they just release a firmware file for use with standard tools or standalone bootable updater like *every other HDD manufacturer*?

And if they're going to do shit like this, they could at least *document* it. Their documentation is atrocious. Why is there no mention of offline mode? That plus a simple hpssacli command to offline the controller would've solved all my problems.
