For French, English and German, the major comprehensive dictionaries (Larousse, Oxford, …) have around 40,000 entries. I’m inclined to think Japanese is no different.

There are ~2000 common kanji but there are way, way more words. 200 words in two years is pathetic. Counting the number of words in a language precisely is kind of useless, but the right order of magnitude is tens to hundreds of thousands for pretty much any modern language.
