So now Intel's claiming their microcode updates render systems "immune" to all of these attacks, which to my understanding smells like bullshit, unless they're taking another serious perf penalty? It needs software support (see my notes in https://github.com/marcan/speculation-bugs/blob/master/README.md …). What impressed me is they managed to isolate indirect branch prediction between hyperthreads. I expected that to be impossible on current CPUs, requiring scheduler hacks.

Also apparently their microcode fix on current CPUs has a significant performance impact too. Newer CPUs will supposedly do it efficiently.
