      I'm just going to point out that the people involved in coordinating disclosure on Meltdown/Spectre have done a terrible job of agreeing on names/categories for the various bugs and CPU impact. Even post-disclosure there's still a mess of speculation on what bug affects what CPUs

      The academics call them Meltdown/Spectre, Google calls them Variant 1-3 (each with a CVE), and there's no good matrix of what bug affects what (which CPUs, kernel leaks, same-context leaks, cross-process leaks, etc).

      The website (https://meltdownattack.com ) claims that Meltdown is only verified on Intel, but Spectre has been verified on Intel, AMD, and ARM

      Spectre isn't even one problem/attack, it's two (or more). Putting both under the same name was stupid.

          Agreed - names in general are stupid because there are always 2+ names for 1 bug at first - so I assumed the multiple names were just different people coming up with names for a single issue
