My Nexus 5X decided to crap out today. I managed to nurse it back to health with a hot air rework station, but I get the feeling I may be in the market for a new phone soon...

I heard Google are pretty good about out of warranty replacements on that model. I think they give out pixels or pixel 2s.

I wonder if they'll care that I took it apart and blasted it with 380°C air to make it (temporarily?) work again.

If it's working after cooling off - it'll probably be fine for another year or two. There's also bootloader/recovery on XDA that does something with little cores (not initialize them? Because PLLs or something), which magically makes n5x work. I went for a pixel2 (non XL)

Nope, it just died again. I went with 425°C this time and it's up again, let's see if it lasts any longer. I tried that special recovery thing but it was crashing too, so I'm not sure my root cause is the same.

Died again and this time it's not coming back after reflow. Oh well, I tried.
