I saw quite a bit of soldering outside of designated areas. If the consequences were this dire I'd have expected someone from CCC doing rounds to enforce it, which didn't seem to be the case.
I also heard this "soldering rule" comes from people that never manipulated a soldering gun, the owners of the place.
It's mostly a definition and insurance policy thing. Somewhere deep in the beauraucratic bowles of the CCL operation there's a clause blacklisting a couple of activities that are considered "BAD". We had special shifts, newly established this year, to enforce that rule. That rule was inflicted to us. By doing so we had no problems with the host in the end. Thank you for mutual understanding.

had dedicated shifts patrolling 24h from day 1-4 in Hall 2 for fire watch and observe assemblys for soldering. I've done at least 10 of those shifts and when a solder iron outside the areas was spotted, we addressed this issue to the guys in the assembly instantly
