Hmm, yeah, then it sounds like some compiler thing where this assembly is emitted for reasons, and then expected to be optimized out later to just the xor eax, eax. Does it look like the code relies on eax=0 afterwards?

when developing the HLE/symbolic execution for BugScan, the hardest stuff to emulate/loop analyze wasn’t O3/Ox code — it was O0 code for VC++ (x86 and MIPS) and GCC (x86, MIPS, SPARC). Sun CC O0 wasn’t as bad somehow.
