It's very tempting to trust someone because they may be in a similar position, class, or community as you, but while that can be an indicator of *good intentions*, it does not mean they are actually able to give good advice. Do your own research and ask several people.

It's fine to restrict the people you work with to a subset you're comfortable with or trust, but never trust blindly. Always seek to verify whatever you choose to do with as many people as possible within the group of people you trust.

And realize that if that group is too small, you may be jeopardizing the advice that you get. It's a delicate tradeoff when you get to extreme situations. When in doubt, do your own research. That is always safe.
