      I mean, silicone is a thing, and people put it not just on but also in their bodies. I don't see why this isn't possible.

      What's the difference? Match the index of refraction and absorption characteristics and it should be pretty much the same.

      I mean, there's nothing in particular that distinguishes glass or crystal from $generic_transparent_medium_with_given_index_of_refraction.

      Glass, glycerol, and a 75% sugar solution are all at about 1.5. There are plenty of liquid/gel formulations in that ballpark, including index-matching gels specifically designed for it. http://www.quantumsilicones.com/2012/02/qgel-920/ …

          Smething more gel-like than glycerol wouldn't even necessarily need a structural cover/bag, just perhaps minor surface treatment.
