The problem is not the orga of the 34c3, it's the owners/landlords of the congress center, who sadly prohibit stuff like that.
I know. It's still the orga's responsibility, and it still affects the event in the same way. You negotiate exceptions when stuff really matters. I know how this works, I'm orga for a huge event too.

We tried to negotiate, but allowing soldering in more places became prohibitively expensive. Landlords demanded fire monitors from city firefighters. We didn't know in advance and will try to get more leverage next year. So it's not a decline but a temporary low.
