Do they not realize that not everyone is putting together kits and arduinos? "Go to a designated area" is not an option when you have a big board on your desk connected to 30kg of test equipment that you need to prod. This kills hardware-focused assemblies.

Afaik they do realize this and they are not happy. They don't come up with these rules but the Leipzig-Landlord seems to be even less fun than the one in Hamburg. Anyway, it's not that anybody wanted this, it's just what it is this year.

The problem is not the orga of the 34c3, it's the owners/landlords of the congress center, who sadly prohibit stuff like that.

I know. It's still the orga's responsibility, and it still affects the event in the same way. You negotiate exceptions when stuff really matters. I know how this works, I'm orga for a huge event too.
