Setting aside the question of which of these you were taught to use, which name do you think better and more clearly describes the behavior of a chord with the notes D, F, Ab, and C?

Please excuse my ignorance. I am still learning. Isn't the 7th chord in the major chord tone scale the half dim or min7b5? ii7 Dorian min?
I think he's saying the II chord in natural minor is IImin7b5 (which is the VII chord in its relative major scale). The parallel chord in major is the IImi7. Still learning here too though so I might be saying nonsense :)
