Datapoint: it takes my laptop about 52 hours to recompile the entire system (2500+ packages). And one quarter of that is just web browsers (i.e. various versions of WebKit and Gecko).

Yes, that means the top 0.24% of packages or so account for 25% of the total build time. Talk about compile inequality.
