The new OOM-reaper so far has been killing mdadm on my system to make space for a btrfs-transaction :S

That's why you don't use swap (did you?). Also, 1/ can we find your alerts description somewhere? 2/Do you automate node-exporter deployment?

No swap. Still thrashes, because all running processes' .text is effectively free swap. My alerts are trivial, just stuff like up < 1 or (node_memory_MemAvailable / node_memory_MemTotal) < 0.12. No automation besides installing it in template VM images and such.
