FYI, vDSO doesn't really live in /lib/modules. I guess some distros copy it there for some reason, but fundamentally it's part of the kernel and always memory-resident. Gentoo doesn't have the standalone vdso64.so.

@marcan42! Your article was one of the best I've read in a long, long time. I guess I made an incorrect assumption when I read "Finding the vDSO" section in vdso(7). Have you found any good guides explaining how this is implemented under the covers? Thanks again for post! -
I'm not aware of anything better than vdso(7) and Documentation/ABI/stable/vdso (which has even less info). It's pretty much just memory that appears magically mapped into all processes.
