      What's an easy way of crafting VGA-style text screens these days? Basically bitmap VGA font + color attributes. Is there a rich text editor that looks right, DOSBox + manually editing control codes, some fancy web thing these days, poking RAM in qemu, what?

      That works, but I found a bug: the | character is unbroken, while it's broken in the VGA font :-)

          It's the ° (charset F10 key F8). Having that character makes it not save properly.
