Today is something like the 7th time I save my and/or someone else's ass by running `grep' over a filesystem block device.

I can't wait for the book ;)
TL;DR undelete/unclobber by grepping for a known chunk of the file; typical modern filesystem allocation policies help by not overwriting recently freed space too eagerly. ;)
