StartCom sold off to that Chinese company in secret, proceeded to hide that fact while voting twice on the CA/B forum, moved over their infra to China, and basically let it all be replaced with insecure junk developed there. Good riddance.
I mean, sure, they were a neat option before LE, but ever since selling off to WoSign they've gone downhill fast in the trust department. It's been shady move after shady move.
