1) Pick any worm newer than SQL Slammer, and tell me a little about it. 2) Tell me how Target was breached. 3) Describe three of the most common ways an external attacker today might attempt to gain access to a network. 4) What DFIR evidence do you gather first, and why?

They are pretty foolproof. Catch a TON of people with Masters in InfoSec who learned nothing, with them :/

Good questions but curious since you single them out, do Masters in Infosec in general perform worse than other applicants?

Yes. Definitely, in my experience over the last 5ish years.

Oh, don't say that. I get my master's in cybersecurity next week. but my experience from the last 2.5 years of classes. my "peers" don't have the right mind set and are only there because they here that is where the jobs and money are.

You nailed the problem. You CAN be a great infosec person with a infosec degree. You can also be an abysmal infosec person with an infosec degree. Unfortunately, a lot of people get the degree and don't do anything else or really care.

This applies to pretty much any technical degree. I've interviewed several PhDs for SRE positions who were useless at any real world problems, and many a BS/MS who would freeze when presented with any issue they hadn't seen before. Same pattern.
