The only difference here is grsec never attempted to upstream anything, so of course they didn't get nearly as much shit as they should've for all the stuff they broke. They like to think they fixed all the bugs but never did. Ever. Stuff crashed.

You can run a distro like Gentoo which lets you introduce certain exploit mitigations throughout all of userspace (as the hardened toolchain does).
