It feels so weird using an old VGA monitor through a shoddy cable after over a decade of only DVI/HDMI. Like my eyes are suddenly not focusing right.

I loved VGA, but it was killed by Hollywood. https://hackaday.com/2016/01/29/vga-in-memoriam/ … I tried to buy a blu-ray player with analog video output, no luck so far.

It wasn't killed by Hollywood, it was killed by time. VGA is a terrible standard in the digital era. Converting to/from analog for no reason (and the dreaded auto adjust button we needed as a result) is silly. DRM/HDCP is a different issue. VGA was going to die, DRM or no DRM.
