Today I had to run to a (luckily) nearby store to buy a DP->VGA adapter because clients' monitor did not work with DVI input (and the new computer only had DP and HDMI outputs).

I loved VGA, but it was killed by Hollywood. https://hackaday.com/2016/01/29/vga-in-memoriam/ … I tried to buy a blu-ray player with analog video output, no luck so far.

It wasn't killed by Hollywood, it was killed by time. VGA is a terrible standard in the digital era. Converting to/from analog for no reason (and the dreaded auto adjust button we needed as a result) is silly. DRM/HDCP is a different issue. VGA was going to die, DRM or no DRM.
