      No, PCIe is actually extremely lenient with timings once you get to the TLP layer. Easy to meet with USB.

      IIRC timeouts are configurable but they tend to be very permissive on most systems by default.

          I know someone made a device that may not xfer data for seconds (?) at a time when a transaction is requested; worked fine for them.

          AIUI, Link Layer will add the equivalent of "device not ready" messages to the controller until, well... the device is ready :D.
