      Seriously, try an mpv based player. It's better than MPC-HC and VLC and it's cross platform. And you can pick whatever frontend you like.

      Something from https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/wiki/Applications-using-mpv … . They should all play the same, just the UI changes. I use plain vanilla mpv but it has no UI.

      I don't think so. MPC-HC is using Windows DirectShow infrastructure, which as far as I know mplayer never did.

      You can configure pretty much all the keyboard/mouse mappings via the config file too if you want.

          VLC has its uses. It's not the best player but it's stupid easy and works everywhere. And it does some streaming stuff better.
