You should know that Yubico does replace the keys sold on Amazon, you just need to e-mail your invoice to their support.

You should know that Amazon Japan is not Amazon US and Yubico does not sell directly on the former, and requests you go through the reseller

Was the seller Yubico or someone else? Every country is different. And it also depends on what arrangement they had with Yubico.

France, and Europe is more like Amazon US than Japan. But I got a replacement for a conference swag one too.

Basically it depends on whether it came from a reseller that Yubico has a "you deal with returns" contract with or not.
