Althoug we obsessive people want all our plugs grounded, is only neccessary for big or inductive charges. Local transformers copes the rest.
Grounding has nothing to do with how big the load is and everything to do with what kind of isolation is in place.

The problem is if I have 20 devices all connected together with various cables and nothing is grounded, one fault means *everything* is live

Most things are double insulated over here, but all it takes is one Chinese PSU with a single layer of enamel separating 100VAC from 5VDC.
