At a certain point, the DPI is just too high. I like the effort they went to with 4/5, so you could still get pixel perfect rendering.

Once the DPI is high enough, you don't need (or *want*!) pixel perfect rendering. Bitmap displays are a pointless fight against Nyquist.

Apple are actually using the least font hinting of any OS as far as I know. And once you have high enough DPI these problems *disappear*.

The current graphics world is like a cheap toy with 8kHz samples that doesn't sound muffled only because it aliases all over the spectrum.
