if python 2.7 is being deprecated in 2.5 years then why is it the python installed on my very new computer

Most default it to py2. even the python project says to default it to py2 until its eol'd.

Ubuntu still has /usr/bin/python as 2.7. IIRC their plan is to remove 2.7 for 18.04, and not ship a /usr/bin/python
